Notions 118 - Bristol Brabazon
From my first roll of film! My step-father, D.H.Lumley, was an aircraft fitments designer, and had given me a Kodak 'Brownie' Vecta for my 8th birthday. On a subsequent outing we toured Heathrow Airport, and also went to Coley's Scrap Yard, at nearby Feltham, where I took this photograph. While there I still remember seeing a stack of four or five scrapped 'English Electric Lightening' jet aircraft piled one ontop of the other, which, alas, I didn't shoot, and today know that that image in my mind would have made an amazing photograph...
The Brabazon name plate seen here was cut from a section of the scrapped Bristol Brabazon's cockpit, and was later displayed at Lord Montagu's Motor Museum at Beaulieu, Hampshire, before ending up at its final resting place at The Bristol Industrial Museum, where it can be seen today.
